The records consist of photocopies of three files from the corporate secretary's office. The first is an index to franchises for the Fifth Avenue Transportation Company and the Fifth Avenue Coach Company (1917). The second is a franchise chronology (1937). The third is a large file containing a first draft with annotations outlining the development of surface transportation in Manhattan. The text also includes information on wage and fringe benefits secured by the Transport Workers Union, the article apparently having been written to demonstrate how the company's owners had incurred losses, while the workers had gained. The file also includes a synopsis of the company's minutes (1896-1920) and basic corporate and financial information on the two companies. The documents are particularly strong on the substitution of buses for horse-drawn omnibuses and electric streetcars.
